We are two kiwis (New Zealanders) who enjoy travelling. This is my first ever blog. We are fortunate to live in the country of New Zealand renowned for its beautiful varied scenery. Upon selling our dairy farm in 2007 our first port of call was to "Trail lite" to have our motor home built to our specifications. We belong to NZMCA the New Zealand motor home association. This gives us cheaper insurance through Covi. NZMCA gives us acess to a large range of services including a very attractive and informative magazine. We have access to a large range of motor home parks throughout New Zealand. Geoff is President of our local branch in Taupo and I am Secretary. Geoff is also Grounds Manager and a custodian at the park called Anzac Cove. Travelling New Zealand in our motor home has been a joy. We are so lucky to be able to freedom camp or camp with a small payment. We also are members of the Department of Conservation Camp sites. For a yearly fee we can camp at the DOC sites. Sometimes during the busy season we have to pay the going rate.
In 2011 I suddenly had this bright idea to become members of a home swap group. Having a motor home makes it possible to do non simultaneous house swaps. After convincing my husband that all would be fine and much research we became members of "Love Home Swap". This house swap site was stated in 2006 by a group of young people in Britain that felt there was a gap in the market for a site with quality homes. This quickly became the most popular site on the web. Firstly I told my daughter Janine and her family who were living in Brisbane at the time that we were planning to house swap in Tasmania in the summer of 2012 she said they would join us. After a few polite turn downs finally found a character cottage within walking distance of the popular waterfront area. What a get time was had by all I would recommend Tasmania to all. Also managed a 6 night stay in Melbourne on the way home. When time allows will blog of our trip. We had barely got back home and had a request from a couple in Adelaide who had booked there flights and wanted to spend it in Taupo. So two months later saw us in a beautifully decorated character cottage in Adelaide, such a great place to visit the Adelaide hills, wineries, beaches, the Vibrant city and other things to numerous to mention. We then put on our home swap site that we were planning a trip to tour The United Kingdom and Europe. We had planned on being away for two months but ended up with 7 home swap requests. So on May 25th we are off on our dream holiday abroad. House sitters are organised they are Beverly and Harry who live permanently in their motor home. Starting to get excited now. Waitangi Weekend

Clive, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand

sunny

Rather than struggling to learn to travel blog whilst overseas now is the time to practice. With doing non simultaneous house swaps during the summer we had lots of exciting get aways. We always enjoy heading to the Hawkes Bay. Napier and Clive are only 1 1/2 hours drive from Taupo so great for a short break. Napier is renowned for its art deco. There was an a destructive earthquake in Napier in the 1920's. When the town was rebuilt ii was built in an art deco style. When we head down this way in our motor home we usually stay at Clive. We find Clive is more motor home friendly for freedom camping In a larger motor home. Napier is currently putting in a NZMCA park so this will be somewhere else to stay in the future. There are many cycling trails down this way. You have lots of choices a lot of them are very flat some are on the top of flood banks. So with Cycles and kayaks off we headed.
