Manchester to Zurich

Sunny Switzerland

sunny 28 °C

We leave Etrop grand hotel, it was quite grand the staff dressed very finely, to drop off our hire car, no scratches. It is always amazing how time flies when catching flights. By the time the car gets dropped off then checked, then had to catch a shuttle bus at least we ended up at the right terminal. Once in the building you have to work out where to head next. Follow everyone else to the lift. Because we were flying Swiss Air ended up in a separate place from most people not many queuing here. A different story for the luggage x-rays a huge queau. Security here very strict you had to remove belts, jackets, cardigans. Geoff's camera went on its own journey down a separate chute. After much discussion and looking he realised it was on so maybe that was the problem. Second time through was fine. We had time to grab some breakfast and a couple of supplies from Boots we walked along and got on the plane as we were in the rear. Geoff found his seat wouldn't lock in so he got a window seat at the back of the plane. I had taken a liking to my window seat so stayed put. We ended up being delayed on the ground for about 45 minutes. We had a good flight then started going around in circles wasting time waiting for a spot to land. Finally started moving again, the plane seemed to do a lot of speeding up and slowing down. Finally we were on the ground and signing up for the rental car. Another upgrade this time a new car with 13 kms on the clock. Geoff had to adjust to driving on the right hand side again. We managed to make it to the hotel in one piece a bit confusing tram lines down the middle and the whole corner of the street shut to traffic due to massive road works. Luckily a person pulled out of the park when we arrived only about 6 parks for the hotel, we had booked a site. Expensive parking 30 Frank's a night. The hotel was very nice, large room and sparkling clean, they even had cutesy apples and bottles of water. It was time to get aquainted with our area, we soon found out one of the brands of supermarkets is called Coop. We got some supplies. Bowled up to the counter like we were in pak n save with our 2 pieces of fruit. Then it was like being a bit player in a silent movie where there is noise and mouth opening and closing but non of it makes sense. After throwing her arms in the air the lady disappears and returns with our weighed fruit tagged. She did say have a nice day as we left. It is funny how you don't feel embarrassed I was actually trying not to laugh!!! We had a nice meal at a restaurant accross the road. One of the waiters had a little English. A lot of the population speak Swiss German it depends were you live as about 5 variations depending what part of the country you border on. It was hot tried sleeping with the windows open but the road works seemed to go on all night so soon closed those. The trams were still going through the middle of the road works so had people on points duty trying to control the cars who couldn't go further and had to cross busy tram lines to turn around. Also they were helping people cross the road.
